The greatest epic ever filmed, this movie is on every critic’s Top 10 list. During Middle-Eastern conflicts in early 20th century, an inconsequential British Army officer evolves into a great and controversial leader of Arab forces. This movie has grand-scale battles, amazing desert cinematography, insightful portrayal of Arab culture at the time, and an incredible performance by Peter O’Toole in the lead role; it’s his fascinating development of the enigmatic protagonist that anchors the film. I was bored to tears when I saw this as an 8-eight year old child; the first half has a pace that was somewhat leisurely even at the time it was made. But I love it as an adult; if you’re not expecting a frenetically-paced action flick, you should love it too.
