Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Wise Rating  80%
Review Date: 2016

Captain America and Iron Man lead factions of superheroes at war against each other after the world governments decide to keep their Avengers team under tight control. Highly entertaining and engaging, just like people want their superhero movies these days. It’s witty and intelligent at times, but the whole debate of freedom vs. control is mainly just an excuse to get these superheroes clobberin’ each other. The stand-outs are not Cap and IM but Black Panther and Spider-Man, whose appearances nearly steal the movie. And the film really nails Spider-Man dead-on, portraying him exactly as the insecure, nebbish teen of the original comics drawn by Steve Ditko; it’s the best rendition of Spider-Man so far in the movies. (But why can’t they ever make Aunt May like the really old lady that she is in the comics?)

Extras:

  • End Credit Scene Alert: Wait for the very, very end, after every single credit has shown. You won’t be disappointed.
  • It’s probably not worth spending the extra bucks to see this on an IMAX screen, because there’s only one scene that’s in IMAX. Yeah, it’s the best scene in the movie, but it’s probably just as good without the IMAX. Most people don’t even notice that the projected image enlarges during that sequence.
