The Wave (2015)

Some writers and producers in Norway must have been sitting around a table drinking whatever they drink over there, when somebody said, “Hey, let’s make a disaster movie!” “In Norway?” “Yes!” “What kind of disaster can happen here?” “Uhhhh….” Then somebody looks up “natural disaster Norway history” in Google and said, “Hey, a hundred years ago, a major landslide fell from a mountain, produced a tidal wave and wiped out an entire city! What if it were to happen again?” “Cool!” That is “The Wave,” focusing on the head geologist in charge of monitoring said mountain. And it IS a cool movie, one of the best disaster movies ever (which isn’t saying much, given the terrible quality of most movies in that genre). Norway has been producing excellent work in movies and TV (“Occupied”), with production, acting and writing matching and oftentimes better than anything from the rest of the world. “The Wave” is a great example of this quality.
