The Forgotten Battle (2020)

Wise Rating  70%
Review Date: 2021

Concept: Allied troops and Dutch resistance fighters attempt to snatch control of a key piece of Nazi territory during World War II.

  • A watchable war movie that produces interesting characters and a couple of unique, key battle sequences, yet doesn’t accomplish anything more to set itself apart from the myriad of war movies in general and WWII movies in particular.
  • There are two great, harrowing battle scenes, one involving battle gliders (I didn’t know those things even existed) and the other at the end depicting the actual Battle of the Scheldt. Everything else—the drama of resistance fighters struggling to stay hidden while British troops fight to get through enemy territory—is well-produced and -acted, but nothing we haven’t seen in previous war movies.
  • The battle that is the focus of the movie is known as the Battle of the Scheldt
  • Viewed on an Optoma HD28DSE projector, 92” screen, Netflix on Roku 3. Looked well and sharp.
  • Not for kids.
Soldiers move stealthily on the edge of a river.
