Norway is such a pretty northern European country—lovely snow-topped mountains, quaint towns. What could ever happen in a place like that? Well, they could get taken over by their giant neighbor Russia as depicted in a realistic and believable fashion by the Norwegian series, “Occupied.” Oh, no, this is not some major troop takedown of Norway; this is an insidious, manipulative invasion that Russia is not only capable of but has done (a la Ukraine). Seen from the point of view of the Norwegian prime minister, top ranking officials, and those who come into contact with them, “Occupied” is an intelligent, well-produced nail-biter. Intrigue, explosions, murders, sneaky Russians—what more can you want from a political thriller?
2021 Update: Two more seasons were released, finishing the story arc. All three seasons are good, but the first two are the most memorable.
