Concept: N.Y Chinatown gangsters hunt down an 80-year-old grandmother who took off with a stash of mobster money.

    • Charming, entertaining character study of an independent and cranky senior in a tough situation.
    • Not a comedy, not an action movie, not a drama, but a little bit of all three.
    • Held together by the excellent performance and charisma of the leading actor
    • The ambiance of New York’s Chinatown is portrayed in an interesting and evocative manner.
    • Surprisingly, some scenes gave my rear speakers a good workout, more than a lot of action movies have. Not bad for a movie named “Lucky Grandma.”
    • Viewed on an Optoma HD28DSE projector, 92” screen, Showtime/Prime Chanel on Roku. I watched it out of focus and thought all along that it was the source, until I realized after the movie that it wasn’t. That’s one thing with projectors that you don’t have to worry about with TVs, that you need to have the projector in focus. You’d think that once you focus the projector that you don’t need to do it again if the projector is on a mount like mine is, but I’ve sometimes found the projector slightly out of focus between sittings. “Slightly” can mean the difference of DVD quality and Blu-Ray quality, because any little fault is magnified on a big screen.
    • Not for kids.
