Bridge of Spies (2015)

Fine if unmemorable real-life drama about an insurance salesman, played by Tom Hanks, who must negotiate a very complicated and risky prisoner exchange between the U.S. and Soviet-ruled East Germany during the height of the Cold War. If it weren’t Tom Hanks playing the lead role and Steven Spielberg directing, this would have been one boring movie. But that much talent can make even diplomatic negotiations entertaining to watch. We journey with Hank’s character into a struggling country where the Iron Curtain is falling fast, casting its shadow of Soviet domination; the movie’s vivid depiction of East Germany at this very critical time is what truly impacts from the film.
