A Hijacking (2012)

Ship hijacked by Somali pirates. It’s been done before, most notably in a Hollywood production starring none other than Tom Hanks in “Captain Phillips” (which was released just four months after “A Hijacking.”) But this one is the real deal. You feel like you are there as the Danish cargo ship is captured and the events unfold. There is no bang-em-up action or explosions; instead, you get painstaking, nail-biting negotiations and the anguish of all the players—the defenseless crew, the impatient pirates, the frustrated CEO of the shipping company (excellently played by Søren Malling) and the crew’s family. Although it wasn’t based on a single incident, the movie incorporates the real-life experiences of the Danish crew whose ship was used in the movie; their experiences as hijack victims on the high seas contributed to the script and the authenticity of the film. So come aboard, watch the movie and learn what it really feels like to be on a ship jacked by modern-day pirates.
