After making a meager living writing profiles for haunted houses that he knows to be fake, a struggling author investigates a supposedly haunted big-city hotel room and what do you know—this one’s for real! Based on a Stephen King short story, this movie avoids the lousy adaptation that nearly all his horror works get on film. “1408” is actually not just a good movie, but one of the best—in fact, I put it in my Top 10 list of horror movies. Few movies communicate such a growing sense of dread as this one. Great horror like this takes the mundane details of our lives and make them terrifying. With A-list lead actors, top notch direction and excellent writing, this movie will make you feel like you’re slowly being surrounded by a living nightmare. You will get chills, guaranteed.
