It Came From Outer Space 3-D (1953)
Wise Rating 80%
Review Date: 2017
Concept: Aliens inhabit human bodies in this 1950s 3D sci-fi thriller based on a story by Ray Bradbury.
- Classic, sci-fi and 3D–it can’t get much better than that, for me anyway. For you, well…
- You might find this movie about an extraterrestrial arrival in the desert a bit dated and a bit slow (especially towards the middle).
- I found it engrossing, an excellent implementation of 3D that transported me back to the early 1950s when this film was made, a thoughtful science-fiction film for the time, a classic that has been exquisitely restored and probably looks a lot better than when it first came out.
- In high definition 3D, it looks like you can just reach out and feel the fabric on that main character’s tweed jacket, or sense that his telescope is going to swing and bang you in the head.
- Most people besides myself won’t find this movie all that exciting. The classic “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” did a better job of the alien-inhabited creepy people, but the possessed mid-Western folks in this movie are creepy enough.
- If you like black and white classics, especially the sci-fi ones, or if you’re a fan of 3D, you’ll love this movie (which is based on a story by the great sci-fi writer Ray Bradbury). And if not, you could still give the movie a chance and let the 3D transport you back to the days of the great 1950s sci-fi flicks.
- The picture below is another of my favorite Wisey cameos.
